Chapter 4.6 Tissues and organs in plants Flashcards
What part of of the plant does photosynthesis carried out\?
The leaf carries pout photosynthesis.
What type of tissue covers the plant?
Epidermal tissue covers the plant.
What is the function of epidermal tissue?
Epidermis cells protect internal tissues from the outside world by creating a barrier. When stomata open to exchange gases during photosynthesis, water is also lost through these small openings by evaporation.
What does palisade mesophyll tissue contain?
Palisade mesophyll tissues contain lots of chloroplasts, which carry out photosynthesis.
What does spongy mesophyll tissue contain?
Spongy mesophyll tissue contains some chloroplasts for photosynthesis but also has big air spaces and large surface area to make the diffusion of gases easier.
What does xylem carry?
Xylem carries water and dissolved mineral ions from the roots up to the leaves.
What does phloem carry?
Phloem carries dissolved food from the leaves around the plant.
