Chapter 40: oxygenation Flashcards
preload
end of diastolic volume
afterload
the resistence to left ventricular ejection
ECG, EKG
monitors the regularity and path of the electrical impulse
hyperventilation
lungs remove carbon dioxide faster then it is produced by cellular metabolism
hypoxia
inadequate tissue oxygenation
dysrhythmias
rhythm disturbances, deviation from normal heart rhythm
myocardial ischemia
results when the supply of blood to the myocardium from coronary arteries is insufficient
angina pectoris
chest pain
lifestyle factors that effect tissue oxygenation
nutrition, exercise, smoking, stress, substance abuse
hemoptysis
sputum containing blood :(
kussmaul respiration
acidic ph stimulates an increase in both rate and depth of respirations
cheyne stokes respirations
decreased blood flow or injury to the brain stem, periods of apnea or just plain old apnea
why is amy adams perfect?
because shes amy adams, duh!
nebulization
adds moisture or medications to inspirations
CPT
chest physical therapy, group of therapies for mobilizing pulmonary secretions
ET
endotracheal tube; short term artificial ventilation
noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV)
used in patients with acute respiratory failure or exacerbation of COPD
continuous positive airway pressure CPAP
treat obstructive sleep apnea
Hemothorax
accumulation of blood and fluid in the pleural cavity between the partial and visceral pleura, usually result of trauma
chest tube
catheter inserted threw the thorax to remove air and fluids from the pleural space
pursed lip breathing
involves deep inspiration and prolonged expiration through pursed lips, breathing exercise
diaphragmatic breathing
useful for pts with pulmonary disease or post op pts, improves breathing by decreased air trapping
