What is an NM?
- Négociant-Manipulant.
A company that buys grapes, must or finished wine to sell under their own label.
What is an RM
Récoltant-Manipulant
A grower who produces champagnes from their own grapes and produced on their own premises. An RM is not allowed to purchase more than 5% of the fruit that they process.
What is an RC?
Récoltant-Coopérateur
A producer who grows grapes, delivers them to a co-op, and markets the wine produced by the co-op under his own label.
What is an SR?
Société de Récoltants
An association (usually one family) that vinifies and sells one or several communal brands.
What is a CM
Coopérative de Manipulation
A coooperative is a collectively owned structure that produces wine from grapes grown by its members.
What is an MA?
Marque Auxiliaire
Marque d’Acheteur
Or, Marque Autorisée
Buyer’s own brand, or private label (restaurant, supermarket etc).
What is an ND?
Négociant-Distributeur
A distributor that sells finished champagne produced by others under their own label.
