Jane Addams opened the nation’s first settlement house called, Hull House. Settlement houses were community centers that provided the following for the poor: child care, nursery schools, kindergartens, and theatre, art, and dance programs for adults

He launched a war for independence from Spain. With the cries of “Cuba Libre!” (“Free Cuba!”), rebel fighters used guerrilla tactics of hit-and-run raids against Spanish forces. He essentially started a rebellion against Spain in Cuba
Explosion of Maine
Soon after a letter that said Pres. McKinley was a weak and stupid politician was leaked, the Maine exploded in Havana Harbor. THe blame was immediately shifted to Spain. However McKinley ordered a special naval board to investigate the cause of the explosion before declaring war on Spain. The board concluded that a mine had destroyed Maine. This was the main cause of the Spanish American War.
