Advanced Practice Nurse (APN)
General name for nurses who have education and clinical experience beyond that required of a registered nurse. 4 areas of specializations Clinical Nurse specialists Certified registered nurse anesthetist Nurse Practioners Certified Nurse-midwives
Allied Health
Broad category that includes services and professionals in many health-related technical areas. Allied health professionals include technicians, assistants, therapists and technologists.
Allied Health Professional
Someone who as received training in a science related to health care and has responsibility for the delivery of health or related services
Allopathic Medicine
philosophy of medicine that views medical treatment as an active intervention to counteract the effects of disease through medical and surgical procedures that produce effects opposite those of the disease
Certified Nurse-Midwives
Registered nurses with additional training from a nurse-midwifery program in areas such as maternal and fetal procedures, maternity and child nursing, patient assessment
Chiropractors
Licenced practitioners who have completed the doctor of chiropractic degree

Nurses who have completed a program of study leading to competence as a registered nurse in an expanded role
Occupational Therapists
Help people of all ages improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working envionments
Optometrists
Provide vision care, examination, diagnosis, and correction of vision problems. Must be licensed.
Osteopathic medicine
Based on holistic approach to treatment. Uses traditional methods of medical practice. Supplements by advocating treatment that involves correction of the position of the joints, tissues and emphasize diet and environmental factors that might destroy natural resistance
Pharmaceutical Care
Mode of pharmacy practice in which the pharmacist takes an active role on behalf of patients, which includes giving information on drugs and advice on their potential misuse
Pharmacists
Graduated from accredited program and successfully completed a state board examiantion and supervised internship
Physical Therapists
provide care for patients with movement dysfunction
Physician Assistants
work in dependent relationship with supervising physician to provide comprehensive medical care to patients.
Podiatrists
treat patients for foot diseases or deformities
