Chapter 4- Frequency Distribution Flashcards
bar chart
A bar graph for a variable that can take on only a very limited set of values.
class
One of the group categories used to cluster data in a frequency distribution.
class boundaries
The lowest or highest value of a variable that falls within a class or grouping of a variable.
class frequency
The number of items in any given class in a frequency distribution.
class interval
The distance between the upper class boundary and the lower class boundary in a frequency distribution.
class midpoints
The point halfway between the lower and upper boundaries of a class.
continuous variable
A variable that can take on values that are not whole numbers.
cumulative frequency distribution
A frequency distribution that progressively adds the numbers of observations that fall above or below a certain standard.
cumulative percentage distribution
A percentage distribution that progressively adds the percentages of observations that fall above or below a certain standard.
current ratio
A ratio calculated by dividing current assets by current liabilities.
descriptive statistics
Statistics used to summarize a body of data; contrasted with inferential statistics used to generalize from a sample to the population.
frequency distribution
A table that pairs data values with their respective number of cases or observations.
frequency polygon
A graphical method of presenting a frequency distribution.
histogram
A bar graph representing a frequency distribution.
ogive
A graphical presentation of a cumulative frequency distribution.
