When police attend a family harm incident what responsibilities must we consider as an employer?
Support for the employee as well as normal police practice.
There is added complexity for employees involved in family harm incidents -two simultaneous actions should occur when attending an incident?
Normal police practice and shift supervisor is notified
and a notification is made to the local welfare officer.
What must also be considered if criminal offending is identified or they are charged?
The suitability to remain in the job
Police employees must be treated the same as any other member of the public when a police employee is arrested or charged with a Family harm offence, who doe’s this need to be reported to and when?
It must be reported immediately—to shift supervisor to DPCC who will advise the District commander or national manager.
Once the EPM and the NPCC have been notified of a FH incident or member being charged what do they consider about the employee
