What does a flashing BLACK hourglass in the upper right hand corner mean on a defibrillator mean?
1.9 A Defibrillator that displays a flashing BLACK hourglass in the upper right hand corner
is operational and ready for use.
What does a RED X and/or chirping sound mean when we turn on the defibrillator?
1.9.1 A Defibrillator that displays a flashing or solid RED X and/or emits a chirping sound indicates that the defibrillator is NOT ready for use and should be exchanged at the CFR-D Depot.
What does the Officer do with the Data card when the unit applies the AED to a patient and turns it on?
2.2.1 Upon return to quarters after a Company applies the AED to a patient and turns the unit on, they will remove the defibrillator’s data card and put it in an envelope with a copy of the Pre-Hospital Care Report (PCR). The Company will bring the
data card to the CFR-D Depot and it will be exchanged for a blank one. The CFR-D Depot will ensure the identity of the CFR-D Depot is indicated on the envelope and immediately forward the data card and a copy of the Pre-Hospital Care Report (PCR) directly to the Office of Medical Affairs, 9 Metrotech, 4th floor. The Office of Medical Affairs will return blank data cards to the CFR-D Depot.
What are the procedures for a AED that malfunctions on a EMS run?
2.2.5 If a defibrillator malfunctions, all equipment shall remain together. This includes: defibrillator, cables, data card, battery and pads. This equipment shall be placed in double clear plastic bags with an RT-2, a copy of the PCR and an Unusual Occurrence Report. This policy should be followed for all medical equipment. Technical Services shall be notified forthwith.
Who’s responsibility is it to get a suction unit back into service after it is used?
2.3.1 When a Company uses their suction unit, it is the responsibility of the Company Officer to determine what type of decontamination has to be performed to get the unit back in service.
What are the procedures if the fluid is contained to the collection bottle?
2.3.1 A
1. If the collection bottle has fluid in it, it shall be removed along with the suction tubing and shall be placed in a red bag for proper disposal.
2. The suction unit itself will be checked for fluid. If there are no other signs of fluid in the suction unit, a new collection bottle and tubing will be re-connected to the suction unit. Red Z Powder
shall be placed in the new collection bottle and the suction unit shall be placed back in service.
What are the procedures if fluid gets into the collection bottle and the suction unit?

- After removing and placing the collection bottle and suction tubing in a red bag, if there is still fluid in the suction unit:
a. The suction unit will be placed out-of-service.
b. Place the suction unit in a double sealed clear plastic bag labeled with a bio-hazard label, Unit number, and an RT-2 taped to the outside of the bags.
c. Do not put a new bottle or tubing on the suction unit, they will be replaced after the unit is decontaminated.
d. The suction unit should be taken to the CFR-D Depot for exchange and the Depot Officer will notify Technical Services for a replacement.
What are the procedures for putting any medical equipment that malfunctions while being used on a patient (including reports)?
2.5.3 Any medical equipment that malfunctions while being used on a patient shall be secured and placed in double clear plastic bags. The Technical Services Division shall be notified as soon as possible to pick up and replace this equipment. CFRD Companies shall fill out an Unusual Occurrence Report (UOR) and forward it, in an envelope to Technical Services.
A. The Technical Services Division shall give the malfunctioned equipment and a copy of the UOR to the Medical Equipment Unit for evaluation.
What are the minimum amount of blankets for a CFR-D depot and a CFR-D company to stock?

-CFR-D Depot Officers shall ensure that a minimum stock of 25 blankest is
maintained at all times.
-CFR-D Companies shall have a minimum of six (6) blankets in their CFR-D stock.
