Chapter 4- Embrance Difficulties Flashcards
What makes the learning stronger?
There are some difficulties that elicit more effort and slow down learning -spacing, interleaving, mixing up practice.
How learning occurs?
Encoding-consolidation-retrival
What is encoding ?
It’s the process of converting sensory perceptions into meaningful representations of patterns in the brain. It’s in short-term memory.
What is a consolidation?
It’s the process of stregthening mental representations for long-term memory. The brain reorganises and stabilises the memory traces, making connections to past experiences and to other knowledge already stored in long-term memory.
What are memory traces?
They are new representations of the pattern in your brain.
What is a retrieval?
It’s recalling the knowledge from long-term memory. It updates learning and enables you to apply it when you need it.
What are mental models?
They are forms of highly efficient skills ar knowledge structures that, like habits, can be adapted and applied in varied circumstances.
What is a good practice when solving problems?
First try to solve it by yourself because the solution is better learned and more durably remembered.
What is a reflection?
It’s an act of review what has been learned from an experience and asking yourself a question. It can include retrieval, elaboration and generation.
What is “write to learn”?
It’s a form of writing reflection, used as a learning tool.
What is a generative learning?
This is a process of trying to solve a problem. This is another name for trial and error.
