What is The Conjunctiva?
A transparent mucous membrane.
What does The Conjunctiva cover?
The inner surface of the eyelids and the surface of the eye.
What does The Conjunctiva becomes when is inflamed or infected?
Becomes red or pink.
What is the name when The Conjunctiva becomes red or pink?
Conjunctivitis or “pinkeye”.
What are the 3 types of Conjunctivitis?
Viral Conjunctivitis, Bacterial Conjunctivitis and Allergic Conjunctivitis.
What is the treatment for Viral Conjunctivitis ?
For most cases are mild and clear up in 7 to 14 days without treatment.
What is the treatment for Bacterial Conjunctivitis?
Antibiotic eye drops or ointment prescribed to shorten the length of infection and reduce complications.
Conjunctivitis caused by what?
By an allergen such as pollen or animal dander.
What is the treatment for Allergic Conjunctivitis?
Usually improves with allergy medications and antihistamine eye drops.
