CHAPTER 4: ACIDS AND REDOX Flashcards
1
Q
What is titration?
A
Titration is a technique to accurately measure the volume of one solution that reacts exactly with another solution.
2
Q
What are titrations used for?
A
- Finding the concentration of a solution
- Identification of unknown chemicals
- Finding the purity of one substance
3
Q
What is a standard solution?
A
A solution of a known concentration.
4
Q
How do you prepare a standard solution?
A
- The solid is weighed accurately and dissolved with distilled water and transferred to a volumetric flask.
- The flask is filled with distilled water to the graduation line until the bottom of the meniscus lines up to the mark.
- If the distilled water goes above the graduation line the experiment would have to be redone.
- Finally, the volumetric flask is slowly inverted several times to mix the solution, if this stage is omitted, titration results are likely to be inconsistent.
5
Q
How do you calculate titrations?
A
- Make the volume and concentation the same unit
-Balance equations
Divide the mol by the concentration
6
Q
What is the equation for titration?
A
concentration= moles/ volume
7
Q
The equation for mols?
A
