One of the key indicators of whether it’s generational or situational poverty is the prevailing attitude.
Generational poverty is that society owes me a living and in situational poverty its often ones pride and refusing of charity.
Generational poverty
is defined as having been in poverty for at least two generations
Situational poverty
- Is defined as the lack of resources due to a particular event (a death, chronic illness, divorce, etc.)
- focused mostly on monetary resources and can be a temporary situation
Realities of generational poverty
Instability of housing, violence, Food insecurity, Unemployment, Unaddressed health issues, Periodic homelessness or crowded housing, Incarceration, Uneducated for under-educated, And death
Patterns of generational poverty
Background noise, importance of personality, Significance of entertainment, Importance of relationships, Matriarchal structure, Oral language tradition, Survival orientation, Identity for the man, Identity of the women, Importance of the nonverbal kinesthetic communication, Ownership of people, Negative orientation, Discipline,Polarized thinking, Mating dance, Time, Sense of humor, Lack of order and organization, Living in the moment
In middle-class households, space serves as an organizing function.
But when you were forced to move the 3 to 6 months after each other, there is little organization of space and consequently, It is more difficult to do well in school.
What is the key to getting out of generational poverty?
Education is the key to getting out of, and staying out of, generational poverty.
The four reasons for an individual to leave poverty:
- A situation that is so painful that just about anything would be better.
- A goal or vision of something they want to be or have
- A specific talent or ability that provides an opportunity for them
- Someone who “sponsors” them (Educators, Role models, Mentor, Or a coach Who shows them a different way or convinces them that they could live differently)
