Chapter 4 Flashcards
What are volcanos
Openings or cracks in the earths crust
What comes out of a volcano
Magma, ash, cinder, and gases
What causes volcanos
When plates collide or separate.
Explain the formation of a volcano
STEP 1
Magma comes up through magma reservoir through cracks or vents in the crust when pressure builds near surface big explosions occur
Explain the formation of a volcano
STEP 2
Magma called lava when it comes out of the volcano flows out of the crater and down the sides of the volcano then cools and hardens
Explain the formation of a volcano
STEP 3
Layers of ash and lava laid down during different eruptions slowly build up to form a cone shaped volcano with a crater on top
What can develop on the side of a volcano
Sometimes secondary volcanos can form on the side of the main volcano
What are the three types of volcanos
Active
Dormant
Extinct
