Chapter 4 Flashcards
Electricity in circuits
Static electricity
Electric fields
Static electricity
When some insulators are rubbed together electrons are transferred.
Gain of electrons =
Negatively charged
Loss of electrons =
Positively charged
Current
the rate of flow of charge
Potential difference
the energy transferred by one coulomb of charge
Resistance
a measure of how much a components reduces the current passing through it
Equation for potential difference
V = I x R
V – volt (V)
I – ampere (A)
R – ohm (Ω)
Series circuits
Current - Same everywhere
Potential difference - Shared between components
Resistance - Resistances add together
Parallel circuits
Current - Shared between the different routes.
Potential difference - Same across each different route.
Resistance - Total resistance is lower than the individual resistors
Equation for resistance
V = I x R
