Q

Why is it warm all through the year near the equator?

A

Because the equator is closest to the sun

17
Q

What time of day are the shadows the shortest? Explain?

A

Shadows are shortest at 12noon because the sun is directly overhead

18
Q

Why does the position of the sun seem to change?

A

The position of the sun seems to change Daily as the earth rotates on it’s axis creating day and night. Seasonally the position of the sun seems to change with the seasons depending on earths position in its orbit around the sun

19
Q

If earth didn’t tilt on its axis, would we have the same kind of seasons?

A

No. The position of the earth in relation to the sun would be more constant creating milder seasons.

20
Q

Do we see both sides of the moon from earth?

A

No, we only see one side of the moon.

21
Q

If it is summer in South America, is it summer in North America too?

A

No because North America is in the Northern Hemisphere and South America is primarily in the Southern Hemisphere.

22
Q

What is different between a full moon and a new moon?

A

A full moon is when the moon is brightest and appears fully lit. We cannot see a new moon.

23
Q

Do the North and South poles receive the same amount of direct sunlight every day of the year?

A

No, the sunlight we receive is different depending on the time of year along with Earth’s position in relation to the sun.

24
Q

Which area of Earth most likely has the least change in summer and winter temperatures? Give reasons for your answer.

A

The region of earth around the equator is the warmest on average and has the least change in temperature as seasons change. This is because the equator is always (more or less) Tilted toward the sun.
