Uses of the verb “ser”
- Give the time of day or year, the month, date, and day
- Inherent physical or character (personality) qualities of a person or thing
- Tell location of events
- Indicates possession or material something is made of when used with “de”
- Indicates origin and nationality
- Gives a definition or identifies someone or something (occupation, religious political affiliation, relationships)
Uses of the verb “estar”
- Used to form the present progressive tense (used to state that an action is in progress at this moment)
- Tells physical, emotional, or mental condition of a person or thing (can also be used to describe appearance, emphasizing a change from the person or thing’s usual qualities)
- Tells physical or geographical location of a person, place, or thing
* For how you feel and where you are, always use the verb estar*
