a permanent movement from one place to another

internally displaced person (idp)
someone who moves to another part of the same country, typically because of political or environmental crises. many idps’ intend on returning to their homes once danger has passed
step migration
a process in which migrants reach their eventual destination through a series of smaller moves
intervening obstacles
barriers that make reaching migrants’ desired destination more difficult
counter migration
a movement in the opposite direction (of a migration)
refugee
if they cross international borders and have a well-founded fear that they will be harmed if they return home, then they are a refugee
chain migration
when people move to communities where relatives or friends migrated previously
ethnic enclave
neighborhoods filled primarily with people of the same ethnic group (or just clusters of people of the same culture)
xenophobia
a strong dislike of people who practice another culture
brain drain
when migration out of a country is made up of many highly skilled people
