Socioeconomics status
Based on family income, parental education level, parental occupation, and family social status in the community.
ELL’s
Students whose first language is not English and who are in the process of learning English
Early intervention
Programs designated to prevent infants and young children who have disabilities or who are at-risk for developing disabilities from experiencing academic failure
Disproportioballity
Refers to the over placement of students from certain racial or cultural groups into special education
Deficit model
Blaming low academic performance on the child or their circumstances without looking at the quality of instruction in the classroom or other possible contributing factors
Culturally and linguistically diverse
Refers to individuals whose first language is not English or who may be members of distinct subcultural groups.
Cultural incongruity
Having values, beliefs, or behaviors that differ from others affecting interactions between teachers and students
Assessment bias
Refers to content in an assessment that is not familiar or appropriate to all students that might negatively impact the students’ performance on the assessment
Achievement Gap
The difference between the academic performance of minority and non-minority students
Title 1
A federal program that provides funds to improve academic achievement for disadvantaged students who are not performing at grade-level on standardized tests and are of a lower socioeconomic background.
