Chapter 4 Flashcards
Epithelial
Protects, supports, and binds organs, stores energy as fat, provides immunity
Tissues
Group of cells that are similar in structure and perform a common related function
Muscular
Generated the physical force needed to make body structures move and generate body heat.
Nervous
Detect changes in the body and responds by generating nerve impulse
Histology
The study of tissues
Germ layers
Ectoderm- nervous
Endoderm
& Mesoderm- muscles drive from hereb
Epithelial tissue or epithelium
Consists of cells arranged in continuos sheet, in either single or multiple layers
3 major fictions
Selective barrier
Secretory
Protective
Selective barrier
Regulates the movement of materials in and out of the body
Secretory
Release products onto the free surfaces
Protective
Line surfaces against the environment
Apical surface
Faces the body surface, body cavity, lumen or duct
Lateral surfaces
Faces adjacent cells
Basal surface
Opposite of apical layer and adhere to extracellular materials
Basement membrane
Thin double extracellular layer that serves as the point of attachment and support for overlying ET
Basal lamina
Closer to the secreted by the epithelial cells
Reticular lamina
Closer to and secreted by the underlying CT
