Chapter 4 Flashcards
Why the project management process is necessary?
The project integration management is necessary in situation where different process interact.
For example, a cost estimate needed for a contingency plan involve integrating the project cost, time and risk management areas. When one or more risks are identified, then one or more of those process may be revisited.
The project deliverable also need to interact with ongoing operations of performing organizations, the request organization and the long-term strategic planning that takes future problems and opportunities into consideration.
Which process are included in project integration management?
1) Develop project charter: the result of is the document that formally authorize the existence of the project.
2) Develop the project management plan: The process of defining, preparing, and coordinating all subsidiary plans and integrating them into a comprehensive project management plan.
3) Direct and manage project work: the process of leading and perform the work defined in the project management plan.
4) Monitor and control: the process of tracking, reviewing and reporting process progress against the performance objectives defined in project managed plan.
5) Integrated change control: review all change requests, approving changes and manage changes to deliverables.
6) Close project or a phase: finalize activities across all project
According to experienced project managers and project teams, there is no single way to lead a project, however, what they must take into consideration when a project has more than one phase?
If a project has more than one phase, the project team and project manager need to define the appropriate level of rigor applied within each of the project phases.
The integrative nature of projects and project management can be understood by thinking of other types of activities performed while completing a project. Which are some examples of activities that are performed by project manager and project team that are related to integrative process?
- Develop, review, analyze and understand the scope. This includes the project and product requirement criteria, assumptions, constraints, and other assumptions related to a project, and how each will be managed or addressed within the project;
- Transform the collected project information into a project management plan;
- Perform activities to produce project deliverables;
- Measure and monitor the project progress and take appropriate action to meet the project objectives.
The integration management knowledge area is present in all project management process. Which result is produced in each one?
First, during the initiation process group the project charter is developed.
Second, in the planning process group the project management plan is produced.
Third, in the execution process group the work is directed and managed.
Fourth, in the management process group, the work is controlled and monitored and besides this the integrated change control is performed.
Then, during the closing process group a phase or the project itself is closed.
What is a WBS?
Is a hierarchical decomposition of the total scope of work to be carried out by the project team to accomplish the project objectives and create the required deliverables.
How a WBS is structured?
Each descending level of the WBS represents an increasingly detailed definition of the project work. The WBS is finalized by assigning each work package to a control account and establishing a unique identifier for that work package from a code of accounts.
What is a WBS dictionary?
The WBS dictionary is a document that provides detailed deliverable, activity, and scheduling information about each component in the WBS:
- code of account
- description work
- assumptions and constrains
- responsible organization
- schedule milestones
- associated schedule activities
- resources required
- cost estimates
- quality requirements
- acceptance criteria
- technical references
- agreement information
