What is values clarification in the therapeutic relationship?
A method for discovering one’s values and the importance of those values
-7 steps:
1-3: Choosing (cognitive process)- choosing freely; from alternatives; after careful considerations of potential outcomes
*4-5: Prizing (affective/emotional process)- being happy w/ personal beliefs and actions; affirming the choice in public
*6-7: Acting (behavior)- acting out the choice; repetition
What is the therapeutic use of self?
Application of one’s cognitions, perceptions, and behaviors to create interpersonal encounters that promote health in another person, family, group, or community
What are the 4 steps in self awareness?
- listening to oneself
- listening to and learning from others
- self disclosure
- practical reflection
