Grand narrative
-A unified story that dominates how people think of the past
- not neutral: privileges one stand point over the other
A single story
-Showing people as one thing and only one thing over and over again as if they are not capable of being anything else
Absent history
-Any part of history that was not recorded or that is missing.
Apartheid
-A policy that segregated people racially in South Africa.
Colonial histories
-The histories that legitimate international invasions and annexations.
-ex: the reason and history behind why certain countries speak certain languages; due to its country’s colonialization history
Racial histores
-The histories of nonmainstream racial groups.
-“What camp were you in?”: question that can only be understood in its context if there’s a comprehension of a part of history where this happen for a particular race of people.
Diaspora
-A massive migration often caused by war, famine, or persecution that results in the dispersal of a unified group.
Hidden histories
-The histories that are hidden from or forgotten by the mainstream representations of past events.
Ethnic histories
-The histories of ethnic groups.
sexual orientation history or gender history
-The historical experiences of gays and lesbians.
