chapter 4 Flashcards
ATP can be produced in two places. Where?
the mitochondrion and the cytosol
Where is more ATP produced?
in the mitochondrion
Products of cell resp?
water and CO2 (carbon dioxide)
the four steps to energy harvest are?
food (glucose), NADH, ETC and O2
What does ETC stand for?
electron transport chain
is cell resp endergonic or exergonic?
exergonic
in the reaction NAD+ + 2H+ + 2e- -> NADH, where do the electrons and protons go?
1 proton and both electrons go to molecule, 1 proton goes to the cytosol
what ae the five classes of enzymes?
kinases, isomerases, mutases, dehydrogenases and decarboxylases
what do kinases do, and what is an example?
transfers phosphate groups, like phosphofructokinase and hexokinase
What step of glycolysis involves phosphofructokinase?
step 3
when a phosphate group is added, what is the process called?
phosphorylation
when a phosphate group is removed, what is the process called?
dephosphorylation
what step of glycolysis involves hexokinase?
step 1
what does an isomerase do, and what is an example?
changes the structure of a molecule to its structural isomer, like phosphoglucoisomerase
what step of glycolysis involves phosphoglucoisomerase?
step 2
