Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)
laws enacted in 1990 to protect citizens with disabilities from discrimination with regard to employment education and public accomidations
Civil Rights Act of 1964
laws that made it illegal to discriminate against someone for his/her color,sex, race religion or national origin with regard to votings and public access
Consumer Credit Protection Act
law that requires providers to be upfront about fees and finance charges when offering credit
Contract
an agreement between individuals or parties creating mutual obligations and enforcable by law
Discrimination
treatment of a person or things either in opposition or in favor of based on bias or prejudice
Due process
procedures or actions followed to safeguard individual rights. In the workplace ; the process to safeguard an employee if he/she feels his/her rights are in jeopardy

act that prohibits was differential based on sex

law that requires businesses to provide prompt written response to billing complaints and investigation of possible billing errors
Fair credit reporting act
law that protects patients from inaccurate information on their credit reports
Fair debt collection practices act
Laws that prohibit debt collectors including physician office staff, from using deceptive or abusive practices in the collection of consumer debts
Family medical leave act 1993 (FMLA)
law that requires employers with 50 or more employees to allow eligible employees to take unpaid leave to help care for a family members illness or to stay at home after the birth or adoption of a child
Occupational Safety and wealth act of 1970
act that defines and enforces safety regulations for the health and protection of employees in the work place
Occupational safety and health administation(OSHA)
federal agency within the department of labor that designs, regulates and monitors the standards of employee safety

in latin meaning “who as well”
a type of lawsuit where a private citizen exposes fraud upon the government and files a lawsuit on the governments behalf
Sexual Harassment
use of power or intimidation over an individual for sexual favors; unwanted or unwelcomed sexual advances and actions or behaviors with swxual implications or innuendos leading another individual to feel uncomfortable or offended
Workers compensation
a form of mandated insurance programs that covers medical costs and wage replacement for employees injured on the job
workplace violence
any act or threat of physical violence,harassment,intimidation or other disruptive behavior that causes fear for personal safety in the workplace
