What is work analysis?
Systematic gathering, documenting, and analyzing of info about the activities performed by people in an org. Includes the context of those people (physical and psychological characteristics)
What is job analysis?
Process of collecting info about jobs. Includes:
-context and principal duties of the job
-responsibilities and working conditions
-information about KSAOs
What are KSAOs?
Knowledge, skills, abilities, and other attributes
Definition of a job
Consists of a group of tasks, and may be held by more than one person
Definition of a position
Group of tasks performed by one person in an org at a given time
What are SMEs?
Subject matter experts, people most knowledgeable about how a job is currently being performed. Usually consists of job incumbents and their supervisors
What is the quantity and quality of SMEs needed for job analysis?
Quantity- depends on method
Quality- representative of the target population for the job (sex, ethnic background, seniority etc. )
What are 3 criteria for choosing a job analysis method?
-goal of analysis: description of observable work behaviours and analysis of the products
-describe the work behaviours independent of personal characteristics
-analysis must produce outcomes that are verifiable and replicable
What are the five validation approaches for job analysis?
-linguistic
-experiential
-ecological
-social-organizational
-hypothetico-critical
