The US cut off supplies to china, as they were a communist government, and many officials didn’t like or trust Mao. Many public people felt doing this would not help our battle with the soviets. We didn’t resume relations with China until 1979. :(

Mutually Assured Destruction. It means that if one side launches a atomic bomb, the other one will release one to attack back.
