Closer/on the midline of the body

Further away from the midline of the body

Lying facing up

Lying facing down
Frontal plane
Vertical line that divides the body into anterior and posterior sections
Also known as the coronal plane
Sagittal plane
Vertical line that divides the body into left and right sides
Mid-sagittal plane accurately divides it into two halves
Transverse plane
Horizontal plane that divides the body into superior and inferior sections
Also known as axial or cross-sectional planes
