Chapter 34 - Geometric Optics Flashcards
What is the object?
Source of light.
What is the Imaging System?
Lens or Mirror.
What is the Image?
The destination of light.
What is a mirror?
A mirror is an object that reflects light.
What is a Plane Mirror?
A flat mirror
EI. A Bathroom mirror
If an object is placed at point P in front of a plane mirror, where will the image be formed?
At point P’ BEHIND the mirror.

Where is an image formed?
At the point where the rays of light leaving a single point on an object either actually intersect or where they appear to originate from.
When is the image a ‘Real Image’?
If the light rays actually do intersect.
When is an image a ‘Virtual Image’?
If the light only appears to come from a certain point but isn’t physically there.
Formulas for magnification:
3
- Image height/object height
- Y’/Y
- -S’/S
When is the image magnified?
M>1
When is the image demagnified?
When M<1
