Chapter 3 Xavier Williams Flashcards
What is a solid?
A solid is made up of compact molecules.
What is a liquid?
A liquid is made up of molecules that are slightly compact and the molecules move some.
What is a gas?
A gas is made of molecules that move all over the place.
What is plasma?
A gas that contains positive ions and free moving electrons.
What is energy?
The ability to change of move matter
What is thermal energy?
The total kinetic energy of particles that make up an object
What is evaporation?
The change of a liquid to a gas.
What is sublimation?
It’s when a solid turns directly into a gas.
What is condensation?
It is a change from a gas to a liquid.
What is a fluid?
It is a star of matter that doesn’t have a fixed shape.
What is a buoyant force?
The upward force that fluids e exert.
What is pressure?
The amount of force applied to a certain area.
What is Archimedes! Principal?
It states that buoyant forces on an object in a Fluid is an upward force.
What is pascal
The Si unit for pressure
What is pascals principle?
States that a change in pressure at anytime in an in closed fluid will be transmitted p.
What is viscosity?
It is a liquid resistance to flow
What is Boyle’s law?
It states that for fixed amount of a gas at a constant temperature, the volume of gas increases as its pressure decreases.
What is Charles law?
It states that for fixed amount of gas at a constant pressure, the volume of gas increases as its temperature increases.
What is gay-lussacs law?
It states that the pressure of a gas increases as the temperature increases if the volume of the gas does not change
