CHAPTER 3: VISION Flashcards
LIGHT: THE STIMULIUS FOR VISION
what is vision?
its the visual light in the electromagnetic spectrum that we can see
Whatv is the electromagnetic spectrum?
Its a continium of electromagnetic energy that is produced by electric charges and radiated in waves.
What is a wavelength?
distance between the peakesof the electromagnetic waves
What is visible light?
Its the energy in th electromagnetic spectrum that humans can perceive
EYE
Where does vision begin?
- The light enters the eye through the pupil
- The light is focused by the cornea and lens to form sharp images of the objects on the retina where we have the receptors
1.What 2 types of receptors do we have?
2.how do they work?
1.We have rods and we have cones
2. they contain light sensetive chemicals that are captured by visual pigments that react to lightand this causes electrical signals that flow into a network of neurons into the retina.
LIGHT IS FOCUSED BY THE EYE
How much eye focus does the cornea have?and the lens?
The cornea has 80%
The lens has 20%
LIGHT IS FOCUSED BY THE EYE
what is the near pt?
distance in which your lens can no longer adjust to bring close objects into focus
