Q

Define an artery

A
  • thick and muscular to withstand high pressure blood being pumped out of heart
  • elastic walls absorbs pressure normalizing the blood pressure
  • recoil of artery assists in blood movement

Q

What is this describing?

  • thin walled
  • low pressure draining blood back to heart
  • veins run inside skeletal muscles
    - when they contract they squeeze the blood, propelling it
  • has valves to prevent blood from drain back down if it has to go upward

veins

What is the SA Node?

A

The SA Node is the natural pacemaker of the heart. It is made up of a bundle of nerve cells.
It fires 70x a minuet. The S and A stand for sinoatriol. Its function is to send a wave of nerve impulse through the atria causing contraction.

Q

Still Bonus
What is this*
-fires when wave from SA Node reaches it
-sends impulse down the purkinje fibers down the septum, up the ventricles causing them to contract
