Guardian ad litem
Court appointed guardian to represent a minor or unborn child in litigation
Revoked
Taken away; as in having a license revoked
Respondeat superior
“Let the master answer”; means employer is responsible for the actions of the employee
Statute of limitations
Period of time that a patient has to file a lawsuit
Discovery rule
The time when the problem is discovered; then the statute of limitations begins
Reciprocity
Cooperation of one state in granting a license to practice medicine to a physician already licensed in another state without needing to go through state certifications.
Standard of care
Ordinary skill and care that medical practitioners use and is commonly used by other practitioners
Good Samaritan law
State laws that help protect healthcare professionals and ordinary citizens from liability giving emergency care
Nonrenewal license
License that can not be renewed; for things such as committing felonies, etc.
