Chapter 3: Surface Area and Volume Flashcards
(33 cards)
What is the area of a trapezium?
A = 1/2 x Height x (a + b)
What is the area of a rhombus?
A = height x length
What is the surface area?
The area of all the faces of a prism.
How do you find the surface area of a cylinder?
SA = 2 x pi x r^2 + 2 x pi x r x h
How do you find volume?
Volume is the area of a shape multiplied by its perpendicular height.
What does 1 cubic centimetre equate to in litres?
1cm^3 = 1mL
What does 1 cubic metre equate to in litres?
1m^3 = 1kL
How can we calculate capacity?
Capacity measures the amount of fluid that can be placed into a solid. It is done by converting the cubic metres to litres.
What is the area of a triangle?
A = 1/2 x base x height
What is the area of a square?
A = Length x height.
What is the area of a rectangle?
A = Length x height.
What is the area of a circle?
A = pi x r^2
What is the area of a semicircle?
A = 1/2 pi x r^2
What is the area of a quadrant?
A = x/360 pi x r^2
What is the area of a quarter?
A = 1/4 pi x r^2
What is a cross section?
The part of a prism or 3d object in which a face is revealed upon cutting into it. In other word, the cross section is the face in between the two faces at the start and end of the shape.
What is a closed solid?
A prism or shape in which all sides are closed.
What is an open side?
A prism or shape where one or more faces are open.
What are net drawings?
The visual representation of a shape that has been unfolded.
What is the surface area of a closed cylinder?
A = 2 * pi * radius^2 + 2 * pi * radius * height.
What is the surface area of a rectangular prism?
2(length * height) + 2(height * breadth) + 2(length * depth)
What is the surface area of a cube?
6(length * height)
What is the surface area of a triangular prism?
2(1/2 * base * height) + (length * depth) + (height * depth) + (hypotenuse * depth)
What is the surface area of a trapezoidal prism?
2(1/2(base1 + base2) * 12) + (depth * height) + (base1 * depth) + (base2 * depth) + (edge * depth)
