Chapter 3 Section C Flashcards
Identify the aerodynamic forces that oppose the reward components of weight in a climb
Thrust
What relative airspeed, power, and AOA, conditions produce the most noticeable left turning tendencies that are common to single engine propellers driven aircraft?
Low airspeed, power settings, high AOA, produce the most noticeable left turning tendencies
Name two design elements that can be used to help offset left turning tendencies
Rudder trim tab
Horizontally canted engine
All else being equal will two aerodynamically identical aircraft with different weights be able to glide the same distance over the ground? If so how can this be accomplished and why?
Yes, this can accomplished by the heavier aircraft by increasing the air speed because change in aircraft weight will not change the glide ratio
What causes an airplane to turn?
The airplane turns because when an airplane is banked, lift is comprised of two components. The airplane turns because the horizontal component of lift creates a force directed inward toward the center of rotation
If angle of bank and altitude are constant what can be done to increase the rate of turn?
Decrease airspeed
