CHAPTER 3 SANITATION AND DISINFECTION Flashcards
Ability of he body to destroy any bacteria that have gained entrance to the body and to resist infection in general.
IMMUNITY
The invasion of body tissues by disease-causing (pathogenic) microorganisms: having evidence of pus.
INFECTION
Infection that is confined to particular part of the body and is indicated by a lesion containing pus.
LOCAL INFECTION
Material Safety Data Sheet: information compiled by a manufactured about its product; ranging from
MATERIAL SAFETY DATA
Ingredient content and associated hazards to combustion levels and storage requirements.
SHEETS (MSDS)
Microscopic plant or animal cell.
Microorganism
Natural resistance to disease ,partly inherited and partly developed through hygienic living.
NATURAL IMMUNITY
Not harmful: not disease-producing.
NONPATHOGENIC
Organism that lives in or on another organism and draws its nourishments from the organism.
PARASITES
Causing disease: harmful
PATHOGENIC
Carbolic acid; caustic poison; in 5 percent dilute solution is used to sanitize metalic implements.
PHENOL
Capable of destroying Pseudomonas bacteria
PSEUDOMONACIDAL
Fluid product of inflammation that contains white blood cells and the debris of dead cells, tissue elements and bacteria.
PUS
Disinfectants that are considered nontoxic, odorless and fast acting
QUATERNARY AMMONIUM COMPOUNDS (QUATS)
The third level of decontamination; significantly reducing the number of pathogens or disease- producing organisms found on a surface.
SANITATION
Contagious skin disease caused by an itch mite burrrowing under the skin.
SCABIES
Spiral or corkscrew shaped bacteria that causes syphilis , Lyme disease and other diseases.
SPIRILLA
Pus-forming bacteria that grow in clusters like a bunch of grapes; cause abscesses, pustules and boils.
STAPHYLOCOCCI
Highest level of decontamination; completely kills every organism on a nonporous surface.
STERILIZATION
Pus- forming bacteria arranged in curved lines resembling a string of beads; cause infections such as strep throat and blood poisoing.
STREPTOCOCCI
Capable of destroying the bacteria that causes tuberculosis
TUBERCULOCIDAL
Set of guidelines and controls, published by the Centers for disease control and prevention(CDC) that requires the employer and the employee to assume that all human blood and specified human body fluids are infections for HIV,HBV and other bloodborne pathogens.
UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS
Capable of destroying viruses.
VIRUCIDAL
Submicroscopic structure capable of infesting almost all plants and animals. including bacteria, infectious agent that lives only by penetrating cells and becoming part of them.
VIRUS
