What are ‘Neanderthals’?
Neanderthals (homo-neanderthalensis) are the previous ancient type of human species known to mankind, before the homo-sapiens.
When did the Neanderthals live?
The Neanderthals lived around 250,000 years ago.
When did Neanderthals die out?
The Neanderthals died about 30,000 years ago.
How did the Aboriginal people of Australia first come to be here?
All humans originated in Africa. There is evidence that they then spread to South-East Asia And then came to Australia about 50,000 to 60,000 years ago.
Why is it difficult to find an exact date for Aboriginal rock paintings or other artefacts, such as sacred ceremony sites.
It is certainly difficult to locate an exact date for Aboriginal existence because many Indigenous sites have been used a lot over thousands of years, and some are still in use. They also could’ve been damaged over time during weather. This makes it difficult to confirm when they were made and used by Aboriginal people.
Why did Aboriginal Australians not have wars between tribal groups?
There were ancestral stories relating to the boundaries of where they lived, so there was no need to fight over land.
What is a ‘Primary Source’?
Evidence that was made in the period of time discovered by palaeontologists and archaeologists as evidence about the past at ancient sites. They are usually in the form of bones, tools, newspapers, paintings etc…
What is a ‘Secondary Source’?
A reconstruction of the past by people living at a later time. They can include books, art and documentaries.
What does the theory of evolution say about human evolution?
All humans originated in Africa where they evolved from ape-like creatures and then migrated to other continents.
