Chapter 3: Part A - Linear Rational Functions. Flashcards
1
Q
How do you find the vertical asymptote of y = (ax + b)/(cx + d)?
A
Set the denominator equal to zero (0) and solve. E.g. cx + d = 0, x = -d/c.
2
Q
How do you find the horizontal asymptote of y = (ax + b)/(cx + d)?
A
They can be found from dividing the numbers in front of the highest power of the ‘x’ term of the numerator and denominator. E.g. y = ax/cx, y = a/c.
