Q

the charter was patriated in 1982

A

until 1982 canada still was connected to the united kingdom.
we couldn’t go to war, change federal budgets, adjust voting systems, or do many other important political acts without having a vote in BRITISH parliament.

canada had an implied bill of rights, based on precedent (past examples) not on any legally binding document, bc that’s how the BRITISH do it

rights have responsibilities

A

As a Citizen who enjoys the rights on the charter there are responsibilities that follow

if we didn’t continue to fulfil these responsibilities the rights would break down and start to fail us.

when we know are rights we have to understand our responsibilities.

when we have to act on them
