Chapter 3 Formualtaions Flashcards
What is the active ingredient?
The component of a pesticide that controls the target pest
What are inert ingredients?
Non pesticidal ingredients mixed with active Ingredients
Why are there pesticide formulations?
They make active ingredients safer to handle and more accurate to apply
What are the advantages of emulsifiable concentrates (eve or e)
Easy to handle
Little agitation required
No abrasive
No plugging of screens and nozzles
What is emulsifiable concentrates?
Liquid formations with active ingredients dissolved in one or more petroleum solvents
What are solutions (S)
Formulations with a water soluble active ingredient dissolved in one or more liquids
What are soluble powders (sp)
Soluble powders are dry powdered formulations containing from 25 to 80 percent active ingredients that dissolve readily in water
What are wettable powders (wp)
Dry Finely ground formulations contenting 25 to 80 percent active ingredient Do not dissolve in water
What are flowables (f)
Finely ground solid particularly combined with active Ingredients and suspended in a liquid carrier
What are invert emulsions
They contain water soluble pesticides dispersed in oil carriers
What are water dispersible granules (wdg) or dry flowables (df)
Similar to wettable powders but the active ingredient is in granular former rather than powder
What are dusts (d)
Formulations contain a low percentage of active ingredients .5 to 10 percent and are dry and almost always ready to use without mixing
What are granules and pellets
Formulations are dry ready to use materials usually containing 2 to 15 percent active ingredients
What are baits
Formulations is an active ingredient mixed with an stable substance
What are aerosols
Contain an active ingredient in solution an package in pressurized containers
