Chapter 3 Electromagnetic Waves Vocabulary Flashcards
Electromagnetic Spectrum
Made up of radio waves, microwaves, infrared rays, visible light, ultraviolet rays, X-rays, and gamma rays.
Electromagnetic Waves
A transverse wave that involves the transfer of electric and magnetic energy.
Radio Waves
Electromagnetic waves with the lowest wavelengths and the lowest frequencies.
Microwaves
Shorter wavelengths and higher frequencies than radio waves do.
Radar
A system that uses reflected radio waves to detect objects and measure their distance and speed.
Infrared Rays
Electromagnetic waves with wavelengths shorter than those of microwaves.
Thermogram
An image that shows regions of different temperatures in different colors.
Visible Light
Electromagnetic waves that you can see.
Ultraviolet Rays
Electromagnetic waves with wavelengths just shorter than those of visible light.
X-rays
Electromagnetic waves with wavelengths just shorter than those of ultraviolet rays.
Gamma rays
Electromagnetic waves with the shortest wavelengths and highest frequencies.
