Vowels
α, ε, η, ι, ο, υ, ω.
῾
placed over the first vowel and adds an “h” sound to the word. ὑπέρ is pronounced “huper.” Every word that begins with a rho or upsilon takes a rough breathing.
᾽
placed over the first vowel and is not pronounced. ὐπέρ (which is not a real Greek word) would be pronounced “uper.” ἀπόστολος is pronounced “α πό στο λος.”
γ
usually has a hard “g” sound, as in “get.” However, when it is immediately followed by γ, κ, χ, or ξ, it is pronounced as a “n.” ἄγγελος
diphthongs
αι as in aisle
αυ as in sauerkraut
ει as in eight
ευ as in feud
ηυ as in feud
οι as in oil
ου as in soup
υι as in suite
improper diphthongs
ὥρᾳ
γραφῇ
λόγῳ
vowel and an iota subscript. An iota subscript is a small iota written under the vowels α, η, or wω (ᾳ, ῃ, ῳ) no effect on the pronunciation
diaeresis

two vowels that are not a diphthong. creates two separate sound and is placed over second vowel.
