chapter 3 Flashcards
Cements
what are cements
cements are generally hard, brittle materials formed when a powdered oxide/glass is mixed with a liquid.
what are cements used for, give examples
they are used to retain restorations such as alloy ar ceramic crowns and bridges and estheric inlays onlays and veneers
when mixed to a thicker consistency than the cementing consistency what are they used for
as TEMPORARY FILLINGS or to provide thermal insulation and mechanical support to teeth restored with other materials such as amalgam composites or gold
what is a major function kf dental cements
the retention of restorations on prepared teeth
name some strong cements that are used for permanent cementation
GIC, compomer., reinforced zinc oxide-eugenol, zinc phosphate cements.
cements are classified into 3 categories what are they
water based, oil based , and resin based
what are water-based cements
GIC
zinc polycarboxylate cement
zinc phosphate cement
what is gic primarily used for
it is a water based cement used for the final cementation of alloy crowns and bridges
what cements are uses for cementation of alloy crowns and bridges
GIC
zin phosphate
zinc polycarboxylate
reinforced zinc oxide eugenol
what cements are used as temporary fillings
zinc oxide eugenol
reinforced ZOE
zinc polycarboxylate
what cements are used as liners
calcium hydroxide
direct vonding of orthodontic brackets
Resin
Root canal sealer
ZOE
what does reinforced restorative cement mean
the same cement but wjth added silver
How many types of GIC are there
there are 4
what is the type II of gic used for
restoration
what is type III of GIC used for
For linner and bases
what is type I of GIC used for
luting
What is type IV of Gic used for
pit aand fissure sealant
if the dentinal thickness is less than 0.5 mm then what is the best cement for lining calcium hydroxide or GIC
calcium hydroxide
after solidifying, which cement has a higher solubility in oral fluids ,zinc phosphate cement or GIC
Zinc phosphate cement
if we are using cemet for luting what maximum thickness can it attain
25 micrometers
what cements have an obtundant/sedative effect on the pulp and are eapecially used on prepared tooth with eposed deninal tubules
Zinc oxide eugenol cements
what are zinc oxide non eugenol cements used for
short term cementation for temp acrylic crown and completed cast restorations
the purpose of reinfoced ZOE
permanent luting
define retention
is the result of micromechanical interlocking of the restoration and prepared tooth
setting time of ZOE increases with what 2 factors
moisture and heat
time if mixing calcium hydroxide must not exceed
30 seconds
time of work of calcium hydroxide must not exceed
1 minute
calcium hydroxide is used
for regrowth of bone
kills bacteria
used as a liner because of its high ph (11.3-15)
permanent luting of crowns and bridges on NON VITAL teeth we use what cement
zinc phosphate cement
what is the effect of increasing powder to liquid ratio of zinc phosphate cement on
- viscosity
- setting time
- strength
- solubility and acidity
١.تعطي مزيج أكثر لزوجة
٢. تتقص من زمن التصلب
٣. تزيد من متانة الاسمنت (زيادة صعوبة التطبيق)
٤. تقلل من انحلاله ومن حموضته
highly ranked for their antibacterial potential and are used as low strength bases and temporary fillings
