Articles of confederation
First written document of the government of the U.S (15 November of 1777), it was highly ineffective, it vas replaced by the constitution 10 years later
They failed because
Too much sovereignty was left in the hand of the states
No president, because there was no executive branch
Legislative had only one chamber. Every state had only one vote, every vote was unanimous
This government had no power of direct taxation, they were broke
Government could not raise an army

Super powerful clause
Power to regulate trade between states, trade was one of the reasons why the confederations failed
The last one of the enumerated powers, is the most important one (Trade grew as the US grew) “Congress shall have the power to make all necessary laws”
