Plasticity
Inherent flexibility of the brain in responding to environmental changes; ex. By learning or to compensate for loss of function to damage areas
Central nervous system (CNS)
One of the two main divisions of the human nervous system, consisting of the brain and spinal cord; the main coordinating and controlling center of the body that processes information to and from the peripheral nervous system
Peripheral nervous system (PNS)
One of the two divisions of the human nervous system, consisting of the sensory and motor nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord (12 pairs of cranial nerves and 31 pairs of spinal nerves).
Afferent information
Information carried inward toward the brain
Efferent information
Information carried outward from the CNS to the periphery
