Chapter 3 Flashcards
Simple event
An event with only one outcome
Compound event
An event with multiple outcomes
Ie rolling a die
Subjective probability
Is the probability assigned to an event based on subjective judgment.
Bayesian probability
Based on combination of prior knowledge and posterior probability.
Law of large numbers
High number of repetitions of the experiment will approach the actual probability of the outcome
Conditional probability
The probability that an event will occur given that another event has already occurred.
Independent events
A and B will not affect the probability of the other occurring
Dependant events
A will affect the occurrence of B
1-False positive
2-False negative
1 indicates the presence of a disease when it’s not there
2 does not indicate the presence of a disease when it is there
1 Sensitivity
2 Specificity
1 probability of positive test result when disease is present
2 probability of negative test result when test is negative
PPV
Probability that a person has a disease given that the test is positive
NPV
Probability that a person does not have a disease given the test is negative
