What are the 7 parts of a medication order?
Patient name, date/time order is written, medication name, dosage, route, frequency of administration, and signature of provider.
What are the different types of orders (think timing)
PRN: as needed, standing: Order that has been written by physician preemptively that allows nurse to administer med if needed. One-time: one time administration, Stat: within 30min., Now: within 60min.
What are the 10 rights of medication administration?
Right: patient, drug, dose, route, time, education, documentation, right to refuse, response/evaluation, right assessment.
What are ENTERAL routes of administration
PO, feeding tubes
What are PARENTERAL routes of administration?
IM, ID, SubQ, IV
When are the three checks of med. administration coimpleted?
- When nurse reaches for unit dose pkg. or container.
- After retrieval from the drawer and compared with the CMAR/MAR or compared with CMAR/MAR immed. before pouring from a multi-dose container.
- Before giving the unit dose med to pt. or when replacing the multi-dose container in the drawer or shelf.

Child: 5/8”- 1 1/4” Adult: 5/8”-1 1/2”
What size needle for an IM injection in the Vastus lateralis site?

When might you use an ID injection? What needle gauge and size would you use?
For tuberculin injections. 1/4”-1/2” needle size, 25-27 gauge needle.
