Gametes
Sperm and Oocytes
Male reproductive system
Testes: sperm and secretion of hormones
Duct system: transports and stores sperm, assists in their maturation.
Semen: contains sperm plus the secretions provided by the accessory sex glands.
Penis: delivers sperm into the female reproductive tract, scrotum supports the testes.
Scrotum
Consists loose skin. Externally, a single pouch separated into lateral portions (l. and r.) by a median ridge cale raphe.
Internally, scrotal septum divides the scrotum into two sacs.
Testis
- Interstitial (leydig) cells: produce testosterone
- Seminiferous tubules: spermatogenesis
- Sertoli cells (nurse): nourish, support and protect sperm.
Prostate
- Citric acid in the prostatic fluid, used for ATP production.

Ovaries
Homologous to the testes.
Broad ligaments: attaches to the ovaries by a double-layered fold of the peritoneum called the mesovarium.
Ovarian ligament: anchors ovaries to the uterus
Suspensory ligament: attaches ovaries to the pelvic wall.
Hilum: entrance and exit for blood vessels and nerves along which the mesovarium is attached.
Uterine Tubes
- Site of fertilization

- Site of menstrual flow
- Site of sexual intercourse
Vulva
Mons pubis: elevation of adipose tissue covered by skin and coarse pubic hair that cushions the pubic symphysis.
Mammory Glands
Lactiferous duct carries, lactiferous sinus stores. Add what produces.
