Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy
Overgrowth of prostate tissue pushes against urethra and bladder. Blocks flow of urine

Varicose vein, internal or external, may fill with clotted blood. Causes - straining pregnancy, low fiber diet and chronic constipation

Occult blood indicates -
Colon cancer. Blood can’t be seen in stool but positive on a fecal occult blood test
Prostate Gland
Located in front of anterior rectum, 2cm behind symphysis pubis. Heart shaped
Rectal Prolapse
Complete rectal mucous membrane protrudes through anus, appears as moist red doughnut with radiating lines
Steatorrhea
Fat in stool from malabsorption
What does a black, tarry stool indicate
Upper GI bleeding
What does a gray, tan stool indicate
Obstructive jaundice (no bile)
What does a pale, yellow, greasy stool indicate
Malabsorption of fat
Normal stool should be
Brown in color and soft in consistency
