Switching which crops are grown each year to maximize production of plants.
What is industrialization?
The process of developing machine made goods.

Who invented the flying shuttle and what did it do?
John Kay invented the flying shuttle in 1733. This machine doubled the work weavers could do.
What is a factory?
Large buildings usually built near rivers which produced lots of merchandise.
Who invented the spinning jenny and what did it do?
Around 1764 James Hardgreaves invented the spinning Jenny, named after his daughter. The spinning Jenny allowed weavers to weave eight threads at a time.
Who was Richard Arkwright and what did he invent?
In 1769 Richard Arkwright invented the water frame. This allowed water power to be used to drive spinning wheels.
Who was Samuel Crompton and what did he invent?
Samuel Crompton invented the spinning mule, which could produce a stronger, more durable thread.
Who was James Watt and what did he invent?
James Watt improved the steam engine.
Who was Matthew Boulton and what did he do?
Matthew Boulton was an entrepreneur who hired James Watt.
Who was Robert Fulton and what did he do?
Robert Fulton created a steamboat called the Clermont, pioneering water transportation.
Who was John McAdam and what did he invent?
John McAdam was a Scottish engineer who, in the early 1800s, who created better roads.
Who was Richard Trevitthick and what did he do?
Richard Trevitthick hauled lots of goods using his steam-driven locomotive.
