What is the peripheral nervous system?
All the parts of the nervous system except for the brain and the spinal cord. (PNS)
What is the central nervous system?
The brain and the spinal cord. (CNS)
What is a neuron?
A nerve cell that is specialized to receive and conduct electrical impulses.
What is a nerve?
A collection of nerve fibers through which impulses travail between the central nervous system and other parts of the body.
What is the brain?
The mass of nerve tissue that is the main control center of the nervous system.
What is integumentary system?
The organ system that forms a protective covering in the outside of the body.
What is a reflex?
An involuntary and almost immediate movement response to a stimulus.
What is feedback mechanism?
A cycle of events in which information from one step controls or affects a previous step.
What is the retina?
Th light-sensitive inner layer of the eye; it receives images formed by the lens and transmits through the optic nerve to the brain.
What is the cochlea?
A coiled tube that is found in the inner ear and that is essential to hearing.
